When the owners of this grand and historic home approached pool and landscape designer Ian Barker of Ian Barker & Associates and Scott Tymkin of Enkipools to create for them an outdoor living area including a pool, spa, entertaining area and gardens, the designers were faced with the challenge of creating a contemporary outdoor space which would complement and harmonise with the existing home.

The resulting space is luxurious and modern with a timeless, classic look and feel and an air of casual elegance. “The client’s pool needed to reflect the grandeur of the residence, yet embrace the clean modern lines of their personal tastes,” Barker says of the project. “They required a pool large enough for two active teenage boys, as well as an entertaining area that could accommodate an eight-seater table setting.”

The integration of these spaces into the existing property has been handled with a skilled hand and a keen sense of restraint. When working on properties such as this, there is the temptation to go over the top but Barker and Tymkin have executed the design beautifully, with the landscaping and structural elements merging to create one seamless, sophisticated space.

The pool and spa also offer the owners the very latest in technology, making the pool incredibly user-friendly and low-maintenance. “The pool and spa were designed to reflect the client’s needs and the style of house,” Barker continues. “The entire pool and spa system is operated by an Aqua Link RS One Touch controller located within the house which operates on a 24-hour, seven-day program which controls the heating, lighting, spa operation and cleaning systems. The spa has multi directional and functional spa nozzles for a relaxing experience and the pool contains a Paramount In-Floor Cleaning System for a virtually maintenance free pool. This means no more trips to the equipment area, and reduced energy bills!”
